Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Beta Reaction

This past weekend was the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Early Access Beta, and we spent plenty of time playing the latest from Treyarch. This upcoming weekend is the open beta, and we encourage everyone to get their hands on it and try out the new omnidirectional mechanics.

It’s been a while since I last wrote a review, but since we’re featuring Black Op 6 in the upcoming Texas Battle Bowl, I thought why not share my thoughts on the new game? First, I’ll drop a video from one of my better matches. And yes, I know I’m not the best player in the world – remember, Socom was my competitive forte.

Came in on top of the leader board, who would of thought?

So let’s start with the maps… I have played almost all of the maps while writing this, but there are a couple more that have come out in the beta that I need to try. The maps in the beta are fairly small, which makes sense since we are playing 6v6. All of the maps so far have some pretty well-defined lanes to work with, even Scud, which is a bit more chaotic in its design.

I used an assault rifle and sniper rifle combination for most of the beta once I unlocked overkill. Each map offered excellent sniper opportunities, and for the fast-paced lanes, I primarily relied on the assault rifle. You will also often catch me using the noob tube while playing, which you can watch live at www.twitch.tv/urgentfury anytime I am online.

Weapons wise I feel there are some weapons that are way OP as is in all betas, so hopefully they do some good tuning later this week for the open beta. The Shotgun and SMG seemed to be the go to OP weapons of choice by most players out there.

When it came to the kill streaks, the watchdog helo hit or miss when it came to being useful. Honestly the few times that I deployed it, only once do I remember it actually making a difference. Most of the time we were lucky if it killed one or two opponents or even tagged them properly. The UAV and the hellstorm missile did their jobs as it should. And even a not so great player like me could go full streaks on a domination match.

The biggest addition to the game of course is the new omnidirectional movement. You start the beta with the option to go through training. I actually struggle initially to get through the training as the left and right movements did not seem to work for me. But after I really started playing the game I got a better feel for it. Only time will tell how it plays out in the competitive scene of course. It is a pretty cool concept and the implementation was good, I am just not that good at it. I will say that I saw some pretty crazy moves from players that are much better than I am.

Over all I think the game felt pretty good, I have heard comments like if feels like Cold War and this is the best release in a while. I don’t disagree with those statements. I played with many different community members on my friends list and we all had a great time. I did not use the in game chat much though because it was pretty rough. Discord or PlayStation party chat for the win is all I am saying.

Be sure to check out the open beta starting September 6th at 10 am PST. And don’t forget to start practicing with your team as we will soon be announcing a couple of LANs in preperation for the Texas Battle Bowl $10k championship!
